STEP NUMBER ONE:


PRE-QUALIFICATION: Meet with a local mortgage broker and find out how much you can afford to pay for a home. While knowing how much you can afford is the first step, sellers will be much more receptive to potential buyers who have been pre-approved. You will also be disappointed if you go for homes outside of your price range.

STEP TWO:


MAKE A LIST OF NEEDS & WANTS: The first list is the MUST haves (number of bedrooms, location, etc.) this is typically the deal breaker list and the second list is the WISH list more things you would like to have (pool, etc.) but are not necessary. This will help keep you on track with what you are looking for.

Questions to also consider:

  • What do I want my home close to?
  • How much space do I need and why?
  • Which is more critical: location or size?
  • Do I want a fixer upper?
  • Do I want an existing home, new construction or to build a custom home?
  • What features and amenities do I want or really need?

STEP THREE:
